Rep. Reichert's Statement on the Conclusion of the Ways and Means Hearing with Acting Commissioner Steven Miller

Statement

Date: May 20, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA) released the following statement on the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) outgoing Commissioner Steven Miller's testimony today before the House Committee on Ways and Means.

"The American people, and their representatives in Congress, have a right to know that they are being properly and honestly served by their government. Unfortunately, in today's hearing the IRS continued to be uncooperative. They refused to identify who was ultimately responsible for the blatant abuse of power in targeting conservative groups in processing tax-exempt applications. The IRS must be held accountable for its actions. I will continue working with my colleagues to uncover who is responsible and take steps to ensure that no group or individual, regardless of their political affiliation, has their constitutional rights trampled on or threatened by the IRS.
